“I know” Ludwig said and he seemed...sad...sure he’s sad (Name) thought, brushing the thought away. “But you’ll find you don’t have much choice” he said.
(Name) sighed, standing up slowly and walking away. Why am I just doing what he says? I could jump out of the window or something...and get away...suuuure. (Name) thought. She walked up the stairs, and to the bathroom.
She felt she deserved a nice, long bath.

(Name) glanced around at her bedroom, she could hear Ludwig speaking furiously on the phone in German, he seemed to have forgotten that well...(Name) could understand what he was saying. At the moment he was talking to someone named Gilbert, his brother. However, the fact that (Name) could understand German did not necessarily help in this case as most of his voice was muffled. She could hear bits and bobs of the conversation, enough to understand that it was probably about her.

Downstairs Ludwig ran his hand through his hair the umpteenth time, gritting his teeth in frustration he flung the phone onto the sofa and sat down with a sigh. How could he have thought that he could just forget about all of this? The diary had been forgotten about, he hadn’t thought about it...

But maybe that was a good thing, after all (Name) was back now which was one positive, thought she with no doubt hated his gut and more at least she was back. He glanced up at the room (Name) was staying in.

Ludwig had been talking to Gilbert about (Name)’s situation, he wasn’t sending her back, he couldn’t either. She already knew about him being a country though it seemed she was trying to make herself believe it wasn’t true. Maybe it was a good thing; maybe he could leave her to think that him and all of his friends were mental. It would be the simplest way to do things. Because he knew one thing for definite, he was not wiping out her memory again.

Another silence etched itself around Ludwig; he got up slowly and glanced at his sleeping dog. He had been so close to actually getting approved by (Name) as a guardian, (Name) obviously didn’t trust people easily and he hadn’t helped.

It was obvious that (Name) felt betrayed by him, after all Ludwig was German as well and for some that made everything so much more worse.

(Name) flung the packet of crisps towards the bin, it missed by a good few meters, she scowled in return. She had so done that by purpose. (Name) glanced at the door again, all was quiet downstairs. She’d managed to hear one part of the conversation. It seemed she couldn’t exactly leave anymore. But (Name) had other ideas.

She heard Ludwig make his way to his bedroom, a click of the door assured (Name) that he had gone in. As quietly as she could, (Name) threw a pair of crisps into her bag, again it missed. She decided not to acknowledge the fact that she had missed yet again and quickly stuffed the crisp in the bag and peeked outside of the window.

Though (Name) was sure that she would never admit it to herself out loud she knew that she had missed the comfort and feeling of safety of this place. The windows could be opened, (Name) looked down the windows to find the shed only a few meters away from her window, it wouldn’t be that big of a jump but a jump it would be all the same. So far she knew her aim wasn’t actually... perfect in any way, and if she missed this time she would end up with a broken back.

In the distance she heard a cat’s meow, at night time why did everything have to sound so creepy for? Taking in a deep breath (Name) first flung the bag towards the shed to see if she would miss or not. The bag tipped over the edge of the shed. (Name) blinked to herself and imagined the bag as herself. She could just imagine it, the triumph of landing on the shed then falling off the edge, not something (Name) wanted to do.

Ludwig lay awake his arms crossed behind his back staring at the ceiling. He had been thinking too much. Gilbert had told him that if (Name) was to stay with her memory not wiped out again she would have to agree on certain rules. Ludwig knew as far as for (Name) rules were meant to be broken, not followed. He doubted she would willingly accept any rules... but what about unwillingly? He could always threaten her with something... perhaps like never letting her leave the house. She’d hate that. Ludwig nodded considering the thought.

Ludwig’s thoughts were interrupted by a loud noise coming from what seemed to be outside, he frowned, maybe the bins had fallen over. He pulled himself up and stared outside squinting slightly, there was a bag dangling on his shed, that was strange, but then a second later the bag fell off the shed. Ludwig frowned to himself, the next second something else jumped out. He froze.

(Name) felt as if she was flying for about a second before she made a heavy impact with the shed and staggered forward a little her knees buckling from the jump. For a second her breath was caught in her throat. She had made it! Alive and what seemed to be with no broken bones.

Grinning to herself (Name) turned around to climb off the shed and blinked as she stared back at Ludwig who seemed to be frozen next to his window. His look of shock only lasted a few seconds before he vanished from sight. (Name) squeaked and pulled herself down the shed outside of the garden.

“(Name)! Stop-” (Name) didn’t look back, she heard the door opening. “Please!” No (Name) - don’t turn back, he doesn’t care- he’ll just ditch you again like everybody else did, like he did. Momentarily (Name) glanced back to see Ludwig trying to open the gates. Clutching her bag she kept running.

Ludwig stared forward. He’d lost her. She’d been too ahead of him and he hadn’t seen which corner she’d turned to. Wearily, he pushed the keys back into the car. It was hopeless, the stupid girl was so desperate to get away she’d jumped out of a window; she was desperate to get away from him.

It was about 4 am in the morning, it had been about three hours, Ludwig cursed to himself in German quietly, he eyed a few men walking past him. Didn’t (Name) know how dangerous it was to be out at night? Well it obviously didn’t seem that way.

He had to find her, before somebody else did. It wasn’t a thought that Ludwig wanted to think about. With new found determination he started driving forward slowly glancing around. Another half an hour later he stepped out of the car to the pavement, it might be easier to look for her now, maybe she would be somewhere where they had been, she might absent mindedly have gone some place she knew about.

He glanced at the park that they had been to, it seemed like such a long while ago now that he thought about it. Slowly he started making his way around.

"So...what exactly are we doing up so early?" (Name) grumbled glancing at the time. The German teacher smiled.

"What, you think just because I adopted you-"

"Don't remind me" (Name) snapped. Ludwig ignored her.

"-I'll be nice to you?" he asked. (Name) blinked.

"What are you trying to suggest" she asked slowly.

"I'm glad you only wear tracksuits" Ludwig said sweetly. (Name)'s eyes widened.

"Oh no you're not" she squeaked.

"There is a nice park a few minutes from here" Ludwig continued.

"Noooooooo" (Name) wailed

"Training"

(Name) was tired, her eyes were heavy and she was cold. With a groan she pushed herself onto the nearest bench she could see and curled up. She wasn’t going back to the orphanage., ever. She didn’t even care anymore. Ok, maybe her thoughtless actions were stupid but she made stupid deciosions a lot, she had learned to accept it.

Tiredly she glanced around at where she was, why did it feel like she had been here before? Whatever, it couldn’t be, she would be far away by now, she had been walking for a few hours now. After a few minutes her sleep finally over took her and (Name) sank into a deep sleep.

It was about twenty minutes later that Ludwig finally decided that it was time to sit down, he made his way to the bench next to the racing tracks and sat down. From the corner of his eyes he could make out a shape next to him. Maybe it was a bin bag, he didn’t know.

Ludwig couldn’t find her, he knew it was too late now. He sighed to himself for the umpteenth time. He should have bought along the dog. He stopped to stare at the bin bag next to him as it moved a little, probably just the wind. He still leaned over to look a little closely.

It was a girl!

What were the chances...? Oh forget about chances, Ludwig leaned over a little and pulled down the girl’s hoodie down a little to find that this was indeed (Name). For a second his eyes widened what if he hadn’t found her, what if someone else had found her here asleep? completely vulnerable to anything that could happen? Any drunken, creepy males walking past could have seen her.

Ludwig didn’t want to think about it, with a seconds hesitation he pulled her up and started hurriedly walking off to his car. She didn’t wake up only stirred slightly. Ludwig nodded to himself; she wouldn’t be getting away again.

(Name) shuffled around, the bench seemed to be a lot softer somehow, almost like a bed. (Name) jumped up and stared around before her mouth dropped open. No- it couldn’t be, behind her the door opened.

“Go wash yourself up and come downstairs.” Ludwig said quietly, standing near the door his arms folded. He had been holding in his anger the entire morning. (Name) opened her mouth to say something but after glancing at his direction his face expression seemed to make her change her mind and she hurriedly walked over to the door.

After a few minutes (Name) hesitantly made her way downstairs, Ludwig didn’t look up as she made her way to the table. A plate full of food was pushed towards her, grilled tomatoes, egg, sausages and buttered bread with a cup of hot chocolate.

“You think it was clever what you did?” Ludwig asked shortly after, his voice cold. (Name) gulped to herself shuffling around. “Tell me (Name), what would have happened if somebody found you, asleep?” (Name) shrugged and muttered something to herself.

“I would have beaten them up.” Ludwig wasn’t meant to hear. He stared at her for a bit.

“Oh you mean like you did when I came, picked you up and took you inside my car?” he asked, his voice rising. (Name) stared at the table in front of her. “What if that hadn’t been me (Name)? What if someone decided to just take you into their car, not everybody is a good person (Name)!” (Name) flinched a little. “You could have been dead by now- worse than dead!” Ludwig stopped and took in a few deep breaths trying to calm himself down.

(Name) didn’t know how to react, Ludwig obviously cared, she bit her lips fiddling with her fingers. She didn’t want to get reminded that she had been picked up.

“You’re not leaving (Name).” Ludwig said finally and stood up. “finish your food.” (Name) stared down at her plate, she wasn’t that hungry any more.

“But I’m not hungry..” (Name) grumbled, Ludwig glanced at her.

“That doesn’t change anything, your still eating.”

“But I’m not hungry though.” (Name) repeated.

“Right.” Ludwig muttered. “I don’t care.” He said slowly, as if saying it too fast would confuse her. (Name) glanced down as Aster stared up at her, slowly she picked up one of the sausages, he wouldn’t realise... Ludwig glanced at her and raised his eyebrow.

“You eat it (Name), not Aster.” (Name) didn’t reply.

“That name sounds like your wife’s.”

“I don’t have a wife.” Ludwig snapped.

“How does she look like?” (Name) asked in a monotone voice.

“I can’t describe her-”

“How sweet.” (Name) interrupted.

“Because she doesn’t exist.” Ludwig snapped, (Name) opened her mouth to say something but Ludwig shoved the bread in her mouth, (Name) blinked and quickly chewed the bread, all that talking had made her hungry.

Ludwig sat down on the sofa,  that had been almost like the old days, (Name) seemed to be thinking the same thing, but there was till the tense atmosphere.

There was a horrible silence inside the house. (Name) quickly put her plate in the basin before shoving her hands in her pockets, the next second the door opened. (Name) jumped a little,  Ludwig glanced up and blinked as Gilbert strode in.

“Hallo everybody! The awesome Prussia here to make everything better again- like always!” He grinned, and flicked his hair back. (Name) stared momentarily, Aster trotted up to him and barked in agreement. Gilbert stopped and stared down at him.

“Keep that smelly dog away from me!” He quickly scooped Gilbird in his hands, the bird who had been flying around was hidden by Gilberts hands.

“Haha.” Both Ludwig and (Name) chorused. Gilbert blinked and narrowed his eyes.

“You evil German folk-”

“You’re German as well.” (Name) interrupted.

“I’m Prussian sweetheart- like I said- way more awesome than German.” (Name) blinked, had he said that before? She was sure he had, though he probably had, she after all had her memory wiped out.

“Aster, eat his bird, she pooped on the sofa last she came.” The bird seemed to chirp in protest.

“Gilbird is a boy!” Gilbert snapped and scowled to himself. (Name) gave him a welcoming glare.

“I guess I’m her uncle then!” Gilbert said brightly he sat down and helped himself to breakfast, Ludwig blinked, both he and (Name) turned red.

“He’s not my dad.” She snapped.

“Ah but he will be like one...” Gilbert muttered.

“My dad wouldn’t wipe my memory out.” (Name) snorted, Ludwig glanced at her without saying anything. She would never let him forget this.

“ So” Gilbert grinned taking a sausage from the table “what’d I miss?”
