The next day (Name) woke up at 3 am in the morning; she glanced around and stared outside the windows. She was still trying to convince herself that she was a ‘country’; it was strange to think about. But the question that lingered most in her mind was how long she would stay alive for. Thinking about it she didn’t want to live for too long, that would mean making no friends because if you did you’d also have to watch them die... how on earth could she watch people die over and over again whilst she didn’t?

Sighing to herself (Name) pulled herself out of the window dangling her legs outside. She could see the fields stretching on ahead of her. The night seemed to stretch itself on. She wondered if she would have to watch the king die as well.

Suddenly she wanted to reverse everything and be back in her classroom. At least she wouldn’t have to think about all this. (Name)’s mind wandered off to the first time the blond guy had entered the classroom, if she hadn’t pulled attention to herself... by accident would she have found out that she was a country?

Well she was never like other people so she would have found out one way or another, perhaps this was the easier way.  Slowly, (Name) made her way to the edge off the windows; she lightly balanced herself on it and glanced at the vines hanging next to her window.

Maybe a walk would help right now.

(Name) nibbled nervously on my lips and started pulling herself down. After what seemed like hours she finally managed to reach the bottom, thanking god she started shuffling around. (Name) had only been walking out for about twenty minutes before the King came striding towards her with a frown on his face.

“(Name), what do you think you’re doing?” After a bit (Name) mumbled about taking a walk, the King shot her a stern look.

“You may be a country (Name), that doesn’t give you the allowance to walk around at this time.” He started shooing her inside; grumbling to herself (Name) followed him

The next morning (Name) had almost forgotten what had happened in the morning. Half asleep, she managed to pull herself out of the covers and glanced at the clothes lying on the bed a few meters away from me. It was a white dress with laced arms, (name) frowned at it. It was probably more expensive than all the clothes she owned. She picked it up slowly and wore it with a grumble pulling the jacket on with it and wearing the boots which she wore usually.

(Name) walked downstairs to the smell of breakfast, her tummy gave a grumble and growl of delight. In front of her lay a table with the most glorious foods she could imagine. There was a lot of food to choose from. Pancakes, eggs and sausages, waffles and so much more.

The King gestured her to sit down, (Name) slithered towards the chair her eyes on the food.

“Tuck in.” The King nodded at her grinning at the look on her face. There was a silence at the table, the King placed his fork and spoon down and glanced at (Name).

“So those other countries want to meet you today.” (Name) opened my mouth to complain or object but the King got their first. “I know, I know, I don’t want to see them again either but then again,” He glanced at her. “You need to know more about your role in this country and what you’ll be doing.” (Name) grumbled to herself, stuffing food in her mouth at the same time.

“Take it as homework will you.” (Name) blinked and stopped stuffing food on her mouth momentary and scowled at him.

“Is that supposed to make me feel better or something?” She asked huffily. The King smirked and nodded before his face became serious again.

“You can’t go wandering around (Name),” he said gently, (Name) glanced up at him and mumbled something with her mouth full. She mumbled something about how she could look after herself and so on. The King shook his head slowly.

“A lot of people want this fabulous country (Name), and to do that they first need you.” He was quiet. “I wouldn’t like to see you hurt.” (Name) shrugged not knowing what to say.

“Well... I could have fought them off...” her voice trailed off at the look I was shot by the King.

“What would you do? Kill them with how squeaky your voice is?” He raised his eyebrows. (Name) blinked and narrowed her eyes at him, she did so not have a squeaky voice! Who did he think he was to be able to say that?

“My voice is not squeaky!” For some depressing reason (Name)’s statement came out as a squeak. She blinked and scowled as the King started choking on the bread he was eating trying to keep in his laughter. “That was your fault.” (Name) growled. The King continued to choke on his bread whilst one of the guards tried to have him cough it back up.

A few hours later (Name) was walking off to the hall where the ‘countries’ were. She sighed to herself trying to make herself believe that it couldn’t be that bad, as a bad habit she shoved her hands in her pockets. The King walked next to her and glanced down.

“Now if any of them want to ally with us don’t jump to a conclusion.” He glanced back up. “Though I highly doubt they would.” He muttered more to himself.

The double doors open and (name) felt her tummy sink, this was so much worse than walking into an exam hall. No actually- this was great. Well at least she had the King to keep her company. Slowly (Name) shuffled over to the only seat left and blinked as the King nodded at her gave a final almost cold stare at the rest of the countries and strode off.

Hesitantly, (name) sat down. Trying to ignore the stares she was receiving.

“Hi bella!” Feli waved at her from the opposite end of the table a sticker still stuck on his cheek where (Name) had slapped him. (Name) grumbled a reply trying to ignore them.

“So (Name) you know why you’re here.” Ludwig started.

“We’ll introduce ourselves again as our countries shall we?” Yao stared and pointed at himself. “China.” (Name) nodded slowly wanting to cry and laugh at the same time at the situation she was in. Never in her wildest dreams had she imagined... this. On and on it went until (Name) started realising something, they were like stereotypes... of their countries.

Taking Ludwig for example, blond hair blue eyes, strict and so on. Feli was like a stereotypical Italian. It was almost funny.

“So you’re all like stereotypes of the country?” (Name) asked curiously, Ludwig shrugged. “Then what am I?” she asked intriguingly. Gilbert yawned and nodded.

“I know!” He started, however before he could continue Ludwig interrupted him.

“So far I can tell that your people are probably loud, obnoxious, stubborn,” he started counting how many words he could describe (Name) with.

“Annoying, hot headed, pesky, short...” He finally ended and nodded. I scowled at him.

“They sound perfect... like me- and I’m not short.” (Name) grumbled.

“Oh no... the King’s getting to her.” Kiku sighed.

“You know, all those words could be used to describe the King as well!” Alfred pointed out. “ He’s so stubborn, I mean dude those hotel rooms were expensive!” He complained.

“Let’s start shall we?” Francis yawned swatting his hand in Alfred’s direction. Ludwig nodded.

“Ok, so we’ll tell you what your role is in this (Name). Firstly, you help decide who your allies are; this would of course not only be your decision.” He started the long list of the things that were expected of her. The other countries soon joined in with telling (Name).

“And then in case of a war.” Russia started and glanced at the other countries, it seemed nobody- not even Ivan- wanted to cover that topic. There was a silence before Ludwig started.

“Hopefully, it won’t come to that but if it does you would be fighting right at the front... as a General.” (Name) blinked at that sitting up a bit. She did not like blood, no she had practically puked when she was learning about the trenches in the second world war. Her eyes flickered over to all the countries wondering if anyone wanted to have a war with her country.

Just looking at them she couldn’t tell who would want to pick a fight- well a war- with her, there were so many countries anyway. The allies and the axis seemed to be reading her thoughts, an uncomfortable silence settled in soon.

It had been an hour and some of the other countries started leaving, that left (Name), the axis and allies and some other countries such as Belarus and even Egypt.

“And that’s why we need to have you trained.” Ludwig muttered quietly. (Name) didn’t reply. Instead after a few minutes she decided to ask a question.

“How long will I stay alive for?” She asked bluntly. Arthur glanced at the other countries before speaking.

“Well poppet that depends...” he started shuffling around uncomfortably.

“On whether I get invaded or not?” She asked slowly, trying to look them in the eye, the countries looked away.

“More like how long your country will stay standing for... and perhaps that too.” Another silence. “But right now let’s not think about that shall we love?”

“I don’t have much choice of being a country do I?” (Name) asked suddenly, they shook their heads. “Great. Fantastic.” She muttered to herself. Another silence followed in which Feli started nibbling on his nails his eyes wide.

“Who are my parents?” (Name) asked suddenly. “Were they like countries as well-”

“Yes. We don’t know yet right now who they were but we’ll find out. Who knows you might have brother or sisters...” (Name)’s tummy lurched at that thought. She started trying to imagine that and quickly shrugged away the thought.

“What happens if I get invaded?” She asked again, trying not to let her voice shake at the thought.. “Do I just die?” Nobody answered, (Name) waited for a bit.

“That depends on the country.” Ludwig muttered finally.

“It’s worse being a female.” One of the females explained, she looked like she was related to Ivan. “They could forcefully marry you-”

“She get’s the point.” Arthur interrupted quickly. “You don’t need to worry about that poppet.” He reassured her.

“Look, there’s good things about being a country as well-” Feli said almost desperately, he opened his mouth to start listing the points. “Like... making a lot of friends and-”

“Like watching those friends die because you age more slowly?” (Name) asked her voice toneless. Another silence followed. “Great. This sounds bloody fantastic.” There was bitter edge to her voice which was cheerfully said.

“So now could I ask why this country- my country- me I don’t know, is in such a bad situation?” (Name) asked icily.

“Nobody knew about this country-” Alfred started looking at the other countries worriedly.

“Oh I’m sure somebody did! The King obviously met you before.” (Name) exploded, Feli burst into tears.

“Well?” She asked quietly, her hands curled into fists underneath the table.

“We did know for a bit.” Ludwig admitted finally, (Name’s) eyes flickered over to where he sat.

“And...?”

“We didn’t offer our help when he asked for it.” (Name) blinked at what Arthur finally confessed. A look of surprise crossed her face briefly. She hadn’t expected that, she didn’t think they were like that.

“Why...?”

“It wasn’t our decision (Name).” Francis interrupted quickly, for the first time joining in properly.

“Yes, we have to follow instructions.” Kiku added quickly. “From the rulers of the country, of course some things are our decision, but that wasn’t even if we had wanted to help...”

(Name) didn’t reply, the countries exchanged glances again before Ludwig spoke up- he seemed to do the most talking in these meeting trying to take control.

“Which is why we’re trying to help now (Name),” he said almost gently. (Name) nodded slowly.

“Could I go now?” She asked finally. The countries glanced at each other and nodded. (Name) strode out of the hall.

“She’s also very serious.” Arthur muttered. “Almost like Germany, I mean look at her she was scary!” Feli sniffled to himself.

“She was acting like a grown up!” He complained. “She’s just a kid!” His comment was followed by a sad ‘pastaaa’.

“Well, I don’t know how we’ll get her trust... or the king’s.” Yao muttered.

“We have to ask him if we can help train her.” Ludwig decided.

“Da.” Russia nodded. The countries nodded.

That dinnertime the King smiled cheerfully at (Name). (Name) had already spilled everything that had happened and inside the King was worried. (Name) was only young, he didn’t want her going around fighting countries. However much he hated saying it he needed help, he needed allies.

And of course the countries had talked to him. The blond guy Ludwig for instance wanted to train her. The King knew Ludwig had been trough bitter and hard times. (Name) would need his help.

“So (Name) you’ll be going for a little trip around the world.” He finally explained. (Name) stopped eating and glanced at him. She’d been in a bad mood since going out of that meeting. “You need help to become a better country... I don’t want you being helpless in situations where you could fight and save yourself.”

“You’re sending me off?” She asked slowly. The King nodded trying to keep the smile on his face.

“It won’t be as bad as you’re making it out to be I’m sure, the blond guy first, Ludwig wants to teach you how to fight.” He nodded and waved at the suitcase being carried in.

“Off to Germany first.”
