“Alright there love?” Arthur asked.

“No, my shoes are eating my feet” (Name) wailed “I can’t walk”

“Are you suggesting I take you up myself?” Arthur smiled sweetly.

(Name) glared at him. “Don’t be stupid, I’d rather have my feet eaten”

He rolled his eyes, taking her arm.

“We’ll just get a room and then you can get ready. The ball starts at 6, that’s 1 hour”

“What are you even planning to do in the ball” (Name) sighed, limping after him. He didn’t reply and glanced at her.

“Remember (Name)” he said sternly “no funny business”

“Quick” Hissed Arthur. He grabbed (Name)’s arm pulling her forward quicker.

“Can you even tell me why we came here in the first place?” (Name) hissed back. “And why, pray tell, are you dragging me out” she snapped, finally wrenching her hand back.

“You think they’re actually going to let you go you naïve woman?” Arthur snapped.

“And why wouldn’t they?” (Name) said sharply. “I’m a victim in all of this, I never-“

“You ran away and assaulted a General you dimwit” Arthur replied, his voice sharp. (Name) hesitated before following him quickly without a word.

“Curse these shoes” she muttered. Before stopping for a second and taking her shoes off. She grimaced at the state of her feet before shoving her shoes in her bag. Arthur was waiting on the other side of the alley.

He glanced down at her feet, his face grim. He cursed, his colourful language could’ve have put a sailor in shame. But then again, he was a pirate.

“What” (Name) said, hesitantly. She clutched at her chest, wheezing.

“I think this is game over love”

2 hours earlier

“I don’t understand what we’re doing here” (Name) muttered for the millionth time.

“Just do what I say love” Arthur snapped. He took her arm and led her to the middle of the ballroom. “Don’t do anything unusual, try to blend in” Arthur said. Music started in the background.

“(Name)” Arthur said sharply as (Name) started moving to the food table. He grabbed her hand, pulling her back near him. “Stay close to me” he snapped. (Name) scowled at him.

“I’m hungry” she grumbled “and that food is begging to be in my stomach” she said, her eyes turning dreamy. Any onlooker would have thought she was deeply in love with the green eyed man standing next to her.

“We’re not here to eat, we are here to work” Arthur sighed.

“We?”(Name) snapped, snapping out of her daze “I was dragged here against my free will”

“Fine” Arthur decided. “It would be mean of me to keep you in a state of such terrible hunger” he said sarcastically.

(Name) nodded, quite seriously causing Arthur to roll his eyes. “I’m glad you finally understand the seriousness of this situation” she said.

“…however” Arthur continued, a smile tugging on his face. “In return, you must dance with me”

(Name) stared at him blankly for a second “Oh wow” she said bluntly “how original of you” she narrowed her eyes “you’ve been reading too many romance novels Alfred Kirkdad” Arthur narrowed his eyes.

“That was only the one and I will take that as a yes, my good sir, I will dance with you”

“One dance” (Name) agreed releculantly “for the love of food” she sighed to herself. Inside, she wondered why she hadn’t been more resistant.

“Worse for you” she said brightly “I hardly dance better than a broom in two pieces”

“I’ll take someone who danced like a broom in two pieces than a fake woman with flour plastered on her face” Arthur said lightly, eyeing the few women giggling at his side. It was hard to miss that their eyes were on him, and had been on him for the last hour and a half.

“Oh I hate this song” (Name) hummed happily to herself. The two took their places. Arthur placed his hand lightly on her waist in case she reacted badly. She gave him a blunt stare in return but did not try and kill him. Well that was a start.

“yet you still know it” Arthur replied, raising his eyebrow

“It would hardly be fair to hate something you have no idea of “(Name) replied.

“Oh, well you could say the same about me” Arthur said, smiling to himself.

“First impressions always count” (Name) said, her eyes narrowing.

“I seem to remember that your first impression of me was a cloaked figure in your café” Arthur said, his smile widening “that was hardly hate worthy”

“I’d say my first impression on you was when I actually knew who you were, or else that wouldn’t be fair”(Name) snapped. “And anyway, the first time around, I didn’t have the misfortune of seeing your face”

“Oh how mature” Arthur rolled his eyes “and you seem to be the only woman here who has that opinion” he looked pointedly at the woman on his side.

“So you take the opinion of a fake women with flour on their facecaked with makeup?” (Name) said.

“And you would care, why?” Arthur mused.

“I don’t know why you have the misconception that I care”

There was a minute’s silence.

“You know, love, you aren’t half bad at dancing” Arthur said finally.

“Or maybe you are as bad as I am” (Name) countered.

Arthur snorted “maybe” he pondered on the thought “UI think not” he decided “I am quite good at dancing”.

“How humble and modest”

“If I hadn’t been humble nor honest, I would have said, I am amazing at dancing, and what is wrong with the truth?” Arthur said

“Oh nothing…it just seems quite petite to be boastful” (Name) said. “and the song had finished “she said “so I bid you fare well” (Name) grumbled.

Arthur sighed, and followed her releculantly to the table.

“Quickly (Name), we have work to do” he muttered.

“We?”(Name)grumbled, a mouthful of profiteroles in her mouth.

Arthur ignored her looking around. “I have already done what we came for” he said bluntly “but it would be suspicious of us to leave early.

He waited a couple of minutes until (Name) had stuffed some food in her bag and gestured her to follow  him.

“Urgh I need the toilet” she groaned “I think I ate too much”

“You think?”

(Name) scowled at him.

“Fine, it would be better for both of us” Arthur said, he waved at a guard who shuffled forward.

“My lady needs a bathroom” he said. (Name) opened her mouth to say something but decided otherwise.

The guard nodded and led them out, and upstairs to the bathroom. “Just this way My lady” he said giving a quick bow.

(Name) half ran in, nearly falling over her dress.

She blinked and looked around “wrong room?” she muttered to herself, maybe it had been accident, and turned to open the door. Before she could grab the handle, she felt two hand grab her from behind, one around her waist, and the other firmly over her mouth. She squirmed, her heart suddenly dropping.

Ok, not accident.

She kicked backwards, and the man behind her let go with a groan. He grabbed her arms smashing her to the floor, she gave a small groan but scrambled up before he could do anything else and head butted him. He choked, stumbling back, his hands failing around, somehow catching her hair, she squeaked and wrenched herself away, quickly wiping the blood from her face.

“RUN ARTHUR” she yelled the first thing that came to mind.

Instead, Arthur opened the door.

“You stupid man” (Name) growled. Arthur took the scene in in a second, grabbed her arm and ran towards the window, locking the door behind him.

“Scum” he spat to himself giving the man a good quick, he muttered something under his breath before opening the window.

“What the hell are you-”

Before (Name) could finish Arthur had grabbed her arm, and jumped.

They landed on the roof a meter away and started running, Arthur dragging (Name) behind him. They ran to the edge and jumped again. All (Name) did was follow Arthur, she didn’t know where the hell they were going or how they had reached the ground. He took out his sword and expectedly walked past the guards without them noticing.

They finally reached the gates and again started running, through the alleys, through the roads, with footsteps not far behind.

(Name) stared over Arthur’s shoulder at the guards in front of the alley. They had surrounded them and she could hear the footsteps close behind them.

“Look I assure you sirs...” Arthur said backing away to the wall. He glanced either way and smiled rightly “I will come quietly but I have something to say” he said brightly. “You may think that this” he gestured to (Name) “is my assistant but she-“

“Save your stories Arthur” cut in the guard at the front “we know she worked with you to get you out of the General’s ship- arrest them both”

Arthur cursed.

(Name) didn’t have time to wonder why Arthur was trying to save her skin when someone grabbed her arm from either side and started leading her out of the alley.

“You don’t understand!” Arthur snapped

“Save it Arthur” said the man “like you said, game over”
